Ray Evans

Ray Evans, RI, RCamA (1920-2008)

was a well known painter in watercolour and acrylic of landscapes and coastal scenes. Born at Hale in Cheshire, he studied in Florence 1945-46, then at Manchester College of Art 1946-48 and under Iain MacNab at Heatherley’s School of Art in London 1948-50. He exhibited at the Royal Academy, Royal Society of Marine Artists, Royal Society of British Artists, Royal West of England Academy, and with the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours (elected a member 1968) and with the Royal Cambrian Academy (elected a member 1998). He painted in North Wales, Ireland, and around the coasts of Britain, and also worked in France and Italy. He delighted in capturing the changes in light and in the moods of the weather. He lived in Hampshire for many years, and later at Salisbury in Wiltshire.
