Penelope Beaton

Penelope Beaton, ARSA, RSW (1886-1963)

was a well-known Scottish painter in oil and watercolour of landscapes, coastal scenes and still lifes. She studied at the Edinburgh School of Art, graduating in 1917, and then taught at Hamilton Academy and subsequently joined the staff at the Edinburgh School of Art in 1919. Her work was exhibited at the Royal Scottish Academy (RSA); the Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolour (RSW); Royal Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts; and Aberdeen Artists’ Society, and she was elected a member of the RSW in 1952 and an Associate of the RSA in 1957. Her work is held in the collections of the Royal Scottish Academy and the University of Edinburgh. Penelope Beaton died in Edinburgh.
