David Humphreys

David Humphreys, RCamA (1937-2022)

was a well known landscape painter and printmaker. He was born in London and studied at Durham University under Victor Pasmore 1958-62. After graduating he taught art in London before painting full time. Apart from his time living and working in West Sussex, the artist painted often in Wales, Scotland and also in Cornwall in the late 1960s and early 1970s. He also also painted in Europe and South America. His work was exhibited extensively in the UK, including at the Royal Academy from 1975, and overseas, and he was elected a member of the Royal Cambrian Academy in 1989. David Humphreys’ work is held by the Arts Council and The National Library of Wales and also in a number of local authority and university collections. He lived in Steyning, West Sussex, for some fifty years.
