Brian Willsher
Brian Willsher (1930-2010)
was born in London and is known primarily as a sculptor in wood of abstract forms. He began making wooden sculptures in 1956 and had one man shows in Dunn’s in Bromley and Heal’s in central London in the 1960s. After winning a disagreement with Customs and Excise officials, who initially determined to tax his work as non-sculpture despite expert opinion to the contrary, Willsher decided to market his work personally rather than through galleries. He later had one man shows at the Belgrave Gallery and the Boundary Gallery in London, and also showed a number of works at the Royal Academy.
