Earl Haig – Cordeyole with Bathers
Artist: Dawyck, Earl Haig, SSA
Title: Cordeyole with Bathers
Description: An original painting in mixed media on paper (gouache, watercolour and inks), signed by the artist lower right ‘Haig’. It is titled by the artist on the reverse of the backboard ‘Cordeyole with Bathers’ and is most likely to date to the mid to late 1980s. The frame had been made by John Gubbins, framer of Selkirk, which is near to the artist’s home, originally for a Haig watercolour ‘River Ale, Liilesleaf’. After the artist remarried in 1981 he spent about one month each year in northern Italy with his wife known affectionately as ‘Fruzzy’ so they could enjoy time with her Italian family. The painting of Cordeyole is from one of those visits to Italy and it was fitted by the artist into the frame made by Mr Gubbins. We have recently had the frame refurbished to a good standard, including the fitting of premium art glass with excellent anti reflection control. The painting is in very good condition.
