Title: ‘Still Life with Drawing’

Description: An original oil painting on board. The painting is signed by the artist lower left, ‘denis p’ but is not dated. It has three labels verso, two of which are on the frame. The work was exhibited at the Royal Scottish Academy in 1985, as exhibit number number 209, where it was apparently sold to ‘W. M. Ballantyne’. The second label on the frame is written we think in the hand of the artist and records the title of the work and the artist’s then address. The third label is fixed to the reverse of the board and is we believe written in Peploe’s hand. Ir reads…’214, Flowers with Drawing’ and 30 x 25 (NB. The size of the painting in inches). In our opinion this work was exhibited several years prior to the RSA exhibition of 1985 but we have not been able at present to establish ‘where and when’. We think the painting is likely to be from the 1970s. It is in generally good condition for its age and is ready to hang.
