Daphne Chart – The Woolpack
Artist: Daphne Chart
Title: The Woolpack
Description: An original oil painting on canvas, signed by the artist lower right ‘Chart’. On the reverse there is a Bourlet exhibition agents label and also the artist’s handwritten label with the title ‘The Woolpack’ and a price of 12 guineas. The artist has reused her frame from another exhibit titled ‘Message Room’ as that label is still on the reverse of the frame. ‘The Woolpack’ appears to have been number 617 in an exhibition but we haven’t been able to trace the exhibition to which the number relates. Based on our knowledge of this artist’s work over several years, we think ‘The Woolpack’ is most likely to date from the 1940s. A possible location for The Woolpack may be Salisbury as the artist spent time painting in that area during that period. The Salisbury ‘Woolpack’ closed about forty years ago. We have had the work cleaned and restored professionally as necessary. There were two small tears to the canvas which we have had patched (please see our images). The painting is now in very good condition. We have retained the frame which is part of the provenance. It has some wear and tear but suits the painting well.
Price: £725 inclusive of delivery within mainland Great Britain. Please enquire of us for costs to other destinations.
Size: About 17 x 21 inches canvas size and about 20.2 x 24.4 inches in its original frame.
