Tage Hedqvist

Tage Hedqvist (1909-1997)

was a well-known Swedish artist noted initially for his landscape paintings before focusing on abstraction during the late 1940s and 1950s. He was born in Piteå in Norrbotten County in the north of Sweden, not far from the land border with Finland, and he studied art at the Otte Sköld Painting School in Stockholm. In 1932 he held his first exhibition and by the 1940s he became well-known in Sweden for his paintings, sculpture, theatrical designs and textiles. Hedquist worked in Paris and other areas of France and was influenced by modernist French art. His work is held in the National Museums in Stockholm, other public collections in Sweden, and in the National Gallery in Oslo, Norway. He died in Stockholm.
