Michael Praed

Michael Praed (b1941)

is a well-known painter, mainly of Cornish subjects in oil, gouache and pastel. He was born in Cornwall and studied art at Penzance & Falmouth Schools of Art and then at Brighton College of Art. He became an art teacher and taught painting and drawing at Penzance for nearly thirty years before turning to painting full-time. His subject matter has been concentrated on the Cornish coasts and harbours and local fisher folk, all executed in his immediately recognisable style. For some forty years he was based in his studio in Newlyn but more recently his studio has been in West Penwith. He became a member of the Penwith Society of Artists in 1970 and is a former Chairman of the Newlyn Society of Artists. He has had several solo shows in London and in continental Europe. Penlee House Gallery & Museum and Falmouth Art Gallery hold examples of his work.
