Title: ‘The Pier, Eastbourne, Summer 1979’

Description: A drawing in mixed media, mainly pastel, signed in full by the artist lower right, and titled ‘The Pier, Eastbourne’ and dated Summer 1979 at lower centre. 1979 was the year Bratby and his second wife Patti settled nearby in Hastings, East Sussex. Although not examined out of the frame, the drawing appears to be in excellent condition and it is nicely framed too, presumably by Belgrave Gallery, St Ives (Cornwall), whose label with details of the work is on the backboard. We think that label may date to circa 2000.
