Leslie Moore

Leslie Moore (1913-1976)

was a well known Welsh painter of landscapes, coastal and river scenes, often using watercolour, gouache and ink, working in the Neo Romantic tradition during the 1950s. He was born in Cardiff and studied at Cardiff College of Art 1932-36. He later taught art in Cardiff and act as art adviser in Glamorgan. Leslie Moore exhibited widely in Wales, including one-man shows with the Howard Roberts Gallery in Cardiff and the Dillwyn Gallery in Swansea, and also showed with the Royal Academy during the 1950s. His work is represented in the National Museums of Wales who hold five examples. Moore found his subjects mainly in south Wales, but also worked in Spain, Portugal and along the River Thames west of London. His work tended more towards semi abstraction during the 1960s..
