John Elwyn

John Elwyn, RI, HRCamA (1916-1997)

is one of the most highly regarded Welsh landscape painters working in the second half of the 20th century. Born in Newcastle Emlyn in Dyfed, Wales he studied at Carmarthen Art School (1933-37), Bristol College of Art (1937-38), and in London at the Royal College of Art (1938-39 &1946-47). Elwyn exhibited at the Royal Academy, New English Art Club, Royal Institute of Watercolour Painters, Leicester Galleries, the Howard Roberts Gallery in Cardiff, etc and was elected an Honorary member of the Royal Cambrian Academy. His work is represented in the collections of National Museum of Wales, National Library of Wales, Welsh Arts Council, Leeds University, the Tate Gallery and in other important collections. He lived for many years in Winchester, Hampshire.
