Alicia Boyle

Alicia Boyle (1908-1996)

was a well known painter, draughtsman, theatrical designer, printmaker and teacher. Born in Bangkok, she spent her early years living in Ireland in County Londonderry. She studied at Clapham School of Art, London and later at the Byam Shaw School of Painting and Drawing. She exhibited widely, including at the Royal Academy from 1932, the New English Art Club from 1937, the London Group, Womens International Art Club, and with the Royal Society of British Artists to which she was elected a member in 1958. Numerous solo shows were held from 1945 including at the Peter Jones Gallery London, the Walker’s Galleries London, the Leger Galleries in 1949, 1951, 1953, and in Cork, Wexford, Dublin, Derry and Belfast. After living in London for many years she settled in County Cork in 1971 and later lived in Dublin. A major retrospective exhibition of her work was held in Cork in 1988.
